Find answers to the most commonly asked questions about aligner therapy, ranging from how long treatment takes to how to clean clear aligners.
How do Spark™ Aligners work?
Spark Aligner treatment involves a series of custom-made, clear aligners that gently shift your teeth into place according to your orthodontist’s specifications. Each aligner is precisely designed and fabricated with advanced TruGEN™ material to apply consistent, controlled pressure to achieve the pre-planned tooth movements. As you switch to a new set of aligners every one to two weeks, your ideal smile will gradually take shape.
How long do clear aligners take to straighten teeth?
The length of clear aligner treatment varies based on your individual needs and the complexity of your case. Patients, on average, complete Spark Aligner treatment in about 18 months, though minor adjustments can be achieved in less time. Dr. Robles will provide a personalized timeline based on your goals and needs.
How often will I need to see Dr. Robles during aligner treatment?
You’ll have occasional checkups during Spark Aligner treatment, typically every eight to 10 weeks, so Dr. Robles can monitor your progress and make any necessary adjustments. We also offer Digital DentalMonitoring technology that allows you to send images of your teeth through an app from the comfort of your home. Dr. Robles can track your tooth movements remotely, which may reduce the number of in-person appointments you need.
Are there food restrictions with Spark Aligners?
One of the benefits of Spark Clear Aligners is that they’re removable. It’s easier to drink and chew food than with conventional braces. However, you might have some tooth colored attachments custom designed to move certain teeth individually, so you still have to avoid eating foods that could chip or break off these attachments. Just be sure to take your aligners out before eating or drinking anything aside from plain, still water. Then, brush your teeth and rinse your aligners off before putting them back in. This will help to keep your aligners clean and clear and prevent food and liquid from getting trapped beneath the plastic, which increases your risk of tooth decay.
Can I chew gum with clear aligners?
It’s best to avoid chewing gum while wearing your aligners because it can stick to the material, creating a mess you’ll have to deal with. Instead, remove your aligners before chewing gum, and store them safely in their case.
Do clear aligners hurt?
No, you should never have any real clear aligner pain. When you first start wearing your Spark Aligners and, sometimes, after switching to a new tray, your teeth can feel a little bit tender. This mild discomfort and pressure will go away in a few days. Eating softer foods for a day or two can help with sensitivity.
How do you clean Spark Aligners?
If you look up how to clean clear aligners, you’ll be met with all sorts of cleaning solutions and devices. The truth is, you don’t actually need them. The best way to clean your Spark Aligners is to simply brush them with a soft-bristled toothbrush and rinse them in lukewarm water. Avoid using hot water and toothpaste, as they can damage the material.
For extra cleaning power, you can also use a mild, unscented, clear dishwashing soap. Usually, by the time your clear aligners need deep cleaning, it’s time to move on to the next tray anyway.
Will the aligners affect my speech?
While many patients don’t experience any change in their speech, some people notice a slight lisp when they first start wearing aligners. This typically goes away within a few days as your tongue gets used to sharing space with the appliance. You can speed up this adjustment period by practicing. Try singing along to the radio, reading aloud, or chatting with friends on the phone.
How much do Spark Aligners cost?
Your Spark Aligners cost will depend on your treatment plan and the complexity of your case. At Modern Zen Orthodontics, we aim to make aligner treatment accessible, which is why we accept many insurance plans and offer flexible payment options. You can also use your FSA or HSA for clear aligners.
